Bristle (aka tachinid) flies in the genus Eudejeania, Tachinidae

Like all bristle flies, individuals in this genus are parasitoids of arthorpods, primarily other insects. Host depends on species. Found in Central and South America.

I never knew there were two.

@onenicebugperday ….I don’t know enough to do a full read of this myself but I do know enough to know that this is just so, so wrong. If you have time and energy I’d love some real info about ladybugs/birds for the people

Oh boy. There are more than two! There are 6000 described species of lady beetle in the family Coccinellidae throughout the world and you could call any of them a ladybug.

The ones above are the Asian lady beetle (top), Harmonia axyridis, and the seven-spotted lady beetle, Coccinella septempunctata.

The Asian lady beetle is not inherently bad or harmful. They’re native to eastern Asia, but have now spread globally. They live primarily outdoors, eat garden pests, and are good for the environment in their native range. They may out-compete native ladybug species where they are non-native, but they still help keep aphid and other soft-bodied plant-feeding bug populations in check which is helpful to gardeners and farmers and plants in general.

They’re not “aggressive,” but they are capable of biting if you handle them. The bite is not medically significant, it’s just a little pinch. In the fall when it starts cooling off, they come inside looking for places to congregate and spend the winter. The bad smell is a defensive secretion used to deter predators.

They have a huge range of coloration:

I suppose the biggest threat they pose (as far as I know thus far) is to biodiversity since they are taking the place of less-common native species across the globe.

The seven-spotted lady beetle is native to the old world, so possibly originated in Europe or Asia, so it is NOT native to the US and has been introduced as pest control. It also out-competes some native species. It’s not better than the Asian lady beetle, people just find it less annoying because they don’t come inside our houses in droves.

To say one of these species is good and one is bad is a huge simplification that really makes no sense.

Twelve digital portraits of anthropomorphic animal characters. From left to right, top to bottom, we have: iguana, platypus, potoo bird, buffalo, deer (buck), bat, sooty owl, llama, maned wolf, poison dart frog, binturong and capybara.ALT

I asked my followers on Twitter and Bluesky for animal suggestions (especially less common ones in the furry fandom) and this was the result :3 it was very fun, should repeat it sometime!

a cartoon drawing of a wizard animal with a comically long, thin, pointy, black witch hat on its head, easily 3 times taller than the wizard itself. the wizard is a white animal with 2 front legs and a single hairy rear leg resembling a human leg and backwards foot. the wizard has a tense, dot-nosed smiley face.ALT

everyone is always acting like there is some crisis of human interaction with one another because everyone is overly sensitive to how strangers approach them and like. no actually its because nobody has any fucking manners. social etiquette has legitimately vanished. it makes interacting with strangers miserable because people don’t know how to fucking behave in public.

like it is rude to stare. it is rude to point. it is rude to have a loud phone conversation in a quiet place. it’s rude to listen to music or videos or whatever on your device with no headphones on a loud volume, or at any volume in an enclosed or quiet space. these are rude things to do. like i’m sorry while some etiquette is silly, an acceptable level of decorum is necessary to make existing in public bearable for everybody…….it is LITERALLY common courtesy

Also, do not fucking photograph or film people without their consent!
